FORD ENDEAVOUR REVIEW – AUTOX It was back in 2016 when Ford launched the third-generation of their full-size SUV, the Endeavour. The third-generation Endy was bigger, butcher and had a massive street presence out on the road. Come 2019, and Ford has introduced a mid-life update for the Endeavour. And with this update, Ford is looking to reposition itself and regain its position in a segment that is certainly dominated by the Toyota Fortuner. Our Ford Endeavour reviewfurther reveals… Design-wise, there are very minimal changes to the Endeavour. While the changes only focus on some styling tweaks, equipment count and a new paint called Diffused Silver, the inherent abilities of the Endeavour are more or less identical to the previous model. And this is the sole reason why Ford sent out invites to take us into the sand dunes right outside Jaisalmer. Now, the Endeavour comes with two engine options and two variants – a 2.2-litre and a 3.2-litre oil burner – the former comes mated to a six-speed manual and automatic with only two-wheel drive while the latter comes mated to a six-speed automatic with four-wheel drive. On the exterior, the design updates are inclusive of a new large trapezoidal grille with three horizontal slats, front and rear skid plates and a refreshed design for the 18-inch alloy wheels. The equipment count has also been updated, there are six airbags as standard across the range, while the top-spec Titanium + trim gets seven airbags, push-button start with keyless entry, Ford’s latest SYNC 3 multimedia system and an electric-powered tailgate. In addition to that, the big Ford also gets an active noise cancellation system. The cabin retains the premium fit-and-finish of the previous model. In our time drafting the Ford Endeavour review, we were quite impressed with the comfort and plushness of the seats over long distances.
In our Endeavour review, we tested out the 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel that is capable of churning out 197bhp of power and 470Nm of torque. Out on the smooth, the Endy made a fantastic first impression. Despite the fact the Endeavour is a ladder-frame SUV, there were no such issues like a jiggly ride, vague steering and a feeling of heft. Bashing through the dunes, though, is a completely different experience and with an intelligent four-wheel drive system, with an electronic rear differential lock and 4x4 low mode mated to a dedicated Sand mode, the Endeavour makes for an excellent off-road vehicle. After an immaculate off-road experience with the Endeavour, we take on the flowing and empty roads of Jaisalmer. From our experience, we can safely say that the Endeavour is the best driver’s car in the segment. A powerful engine, a steering that proffers a lot of communication, the Endeavour is a hoot to drive. And it certainly ticks all the boxes for a big-size SUV.
