What is the Holy Bible • The Holy Bible is a collection of 73 different books divided into two sections (Old and New Testaments). • Forty six books make up the Old Testament, and twenty seven books make up the New Testament. • It is written by over 40 different authors over a span of 1,500 years in three different languages (Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek). • Yet it presents a unified message of God’s plan and purpose for humanity. • What is the first book written in the bible?

Notice the Following in OT • The # of books in the OT is different in the Christian tradition than the Jewish one because the Jews combined some together but without changing any word or letter. • The second canonical books are: Tobit, Judith, The book of wisdom, Ecclesiasticus by Ben Sirach, Baruch, 1&2 Maccabees. Affirmed by the Orthodox and Catholic Church as canonical but rejected by the protestant Church as it was put together after the death of Ezra the priest.

  5. The New Testament • 27 books consisting of; 1. Four Gospels by: • A) Mathew: written around 41 AD or 60 AD. 28 chapters made of 1071 verses. Written in INDIA to the Jews, made of 13508 words, about Jesus the long awaited Messiah. • B) Mark: written around 61 AD. 16 chapters and 671 verses. Written in Alexandria, 8614 words to the Romans about the power of Christ • Luke: written around 63 AD, 24 chapters, 1153 verses, in Europe, 14461 words to the Greeks about the service of Christ. • John: written around 98 AD 21 chapters, 876 verses, 12211 words, in Asia Minor or turkey of today, to the whole world on the Divinity of Christ.

  6. The New Testament 2. Historic Book of Acts written by St Luke around 63 AD., documenting the initiation of the Church by the descent of the Holy Spirit as tongues of fire on the first nucleus on the day of Pentecost. 28 chapters, 1007 verses and 15005 words. 3. The Epistles (Wisdom Book): • 1. St Paul: between 48 and 63 AD. 14 in number, 106 chapters, 2333 verses and 31347 words • 2. Catholic: 7 in number: James, 2 by Peter, 3 by John, Judea. Written around 60 to 95 AD. 21 chapters, 432 verses and 6371 words. 4. Prophetic Books Revelation:

  7. The Relevance of the Bible • 2Tim 3:16 “All scriptureis given by inspiration of God and is profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work” • The word "scripture" means "sacred writings.“ • The fundamental characteristic of scripture, what makes these writings sacred writings, is the fact that God breathed them out, that they have their ultimate origin with God Himself.
