A few words about pictures

A few words about pictures Eye and Pen supports various picture file formats: • BMP • EMF • GIF • ICO • JPG / JPEG • WMF BMP file format is the only one that is not compressed. • Files are bigger than saved in other formats • Load time is shorter because there is no uncompressing calculation. Picture width / height and color number have an impact on its size and loading time: the bigger the picture and the greater the number of colors, the longer it will take to load and display. 10-12 April 2012, Mshs, University of Poitiers, France

Some advantages: • Pictures are mostly independent from system (e.g., no typefont compatibility troubles). • Can be prepared in advance, so content will not be modified “unexpectedly” during a recording session. Some advices: • Image size of 1024 x 768 pixels is usually enough. • Use as few colors as possible: photo quality (16,7 millions colors) is not required for text (use 256 colors) • Although Script can display text, it is wise to use pictures for critical items. Some notes: • “Simple” recording only display pictures. • Pictures can be prepared with simple tools like MS-paint (Windows accessories). 10-12 April 2012, Mshs, University of Poitiers, France

3. About screen resolution Although Eye and Pen can work in any screen resolution and with any picture size, be aware that: • Greater resolution means slower screen refresh rate (time required to change display content will be longer). • Using picture greater or smaller than screen resolution may require to manage disposition, scale ratio, etc. For the sake of simplicity, use the same screen resolution and pictures size. 10-12 April 2012, Mshs, University of Poitiers, France
