Folk Tales (Tall Tales, Fairy Tales) • Told primarily for entertainment rather than to explain or teach something • Characters may be animals, people, or superhuman beings.
Fables • Brief tale that teaches a moral or lesson • Characters are often animals that act and speak like human beings.
Legends • Story about a specific person – usually someone of heroic accomplishments • May have some basis in fact
