Dr. Seuss & World War 2 A Case Study of Total War
Dr. Seuss Joins the War • Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904-1991) was a life-long cartoonist • He grew up haunted by WWI • Started creating children books in 1937 • From 1941-1943 he was the chief editorial cartoonist for the NY Newspaper, PM • His political cartoons were a hit, building his fame as a cartoonist
Instructions: • Number off 1-4 • As a group you are going to analyze the cartoon according to the sheet provided. • As you examine the cartoon pay attention • What images you see & Why they are included • What is the message about and how does the image express that? (purpose) • After you are discussing, I will then call on one of the numbers to stand up. • You may then be asked to share what your group discussed about a particular questions. • Work on building off each other’s conversation to generate a higher level of understanding.
