  2. Learning Objectives: • Understand logistical need of an off-site vaccination clinic • Describe the advantages / disadvantages of working with a contracted vaccine distributor • Identify marketing techniques used to reach adults and children

  3. Planning for a fall influenza clinic begins Late winter of calendar year

  4. FIRST DECISIONS: Target group(s) to vaccinate Anticipated response - quantity of vaccine to order

  5. Now the real work begins! When ? • Can we get vaccine in time? • CDC recommendations for vaccination for the upcoming season • Competition from commercial sites

  6. Where? • Site available on clinic date? • Large enough to handle all activities? • Adequate parking? • Restroom facilities?

  7. Equipment needed: • Refrigeration to maintain cold chain • Copiers for insurance information • Medical supplies

  8. Staffing for flu clinics: Licensed nurses Paid staff Student nurses Administrative support ● 3 admin to 1 nurse

  10. Advantages of using a contract supplier: • No upfront cost for vaccine • Guaranteed delivery date • Variable quantity – reorder as needed • No greater administrative burden at clinic site

  11. Advantages… • More insurance companies in network • VaxCare will do all billing! • HD will receive % for each vaccine paid by insurance

  12. Advantages…. • Vaccine supplied in prefilled syringes – preservative free • VaxCare provided medical supplies

  13. Disadvantages: • One of largest insurance carriers for our retired population was not in VaxCare’s network • Cash table was more complicated due to VaxCare’s receipt forms

  14. Disadvantages… PR value of non-network employer insurance companies HD set up special clinics for some employers

  15. Disadvantages…. Extra planning time for incorporating VaxCare procedures into our tried and true protocols! meetings meetings meetings
