What I know now - • Mart – • Grace- • Elias-
Becky – • Jyra- Hayley – Lewis-
Cabbage Indicator • We used purple cabbage water. • The seniors added things and this happened -
Cabbage Water • 1. Went red or pink. These are acids- Apple juice, tartaric acid, citric acid. • Went blue, green or a different purple. These are bases (carbonates) – Washing soda, icing sugar, milk. • Some didn’t change. These are neutrals- cold tea, disinfectant. We think they didn’t change because they have a lot of water in them.
Two Science experiments for us- • Popgun- vinegar and baking soda in a bottle with a cork put into the top. Shake it and the cork goes flying. • Sherbet- we tasted each thing we added, we mixed it up and then we tasted it again. It fizzed on our tongues.
Making A Popgun • You need - • Baking soda • A spoon • A funnel • Vinegar • A cork • Bottle • A safe place to shoot it outside • An adult if you are little
Steps • 1. Go outside • 2. Take all your equipment with you • 3. Pour some vinegar in the bottle until it is a quarter full. • 4. Add 3 spoons of baking soda through the funnel and – • 5. very quickly put the cork in the top of the bottle • 6. Don’t point it near a person. • 7. Shake it up and watch the cork go POP!
An explanation using science words - • The vinegar, which is an acid and the baking soda, which is a carbonate made bubbles come up. The bubbles pushed so hard they make the cork pop out. They are called carbon dioxide. • We made a chemical reaction.
