AIMS OF APIL • To promote full and prompt compensation for all types of personal injury • To improve access to our legal system by all means including education, exchange of information and enhancement of law reform • To alert the public to dangers in society such as harmful products and dangerous drugs • To provide a communication network exchanging views formally and informally • To promote health and safety

  4. APIL supports the introduction of a law to overcome the difficulties in prosecuting companies for manslaughter • Such a law should extend to all organisations, including incorporated organisations • Crown immunity should not apply in respect of this law

  5. Fines must be appropriate to the offence. Account should be taken of: • Turnover • Assets Note : Importance of Civil actions

  6. Legislation should be reformed to ensure that individual directors’ responsibility for health and safety is enshrined in law

  7. INDIVIDUAL LIABILITY OF DIRECTORS • Fines • Disqualification • Imprisonment
