Essentials of Data-Based Action: Getting Data Out of Your Data System (so you can use it) • September 15, 2013 • 4:45-6:00 p.m. • Missy Cochenour • Jeff Sellers
Overview Data Use Framework (small group work/full group discussion) • Plan • Create • Sustain Technical Considerations
Goals of Session This session will describe the importance of using data to inform decision-making. Principles of data use will be broken out into three main categories: planning for who the users are, creating the tools and reports for those users, and how to support the state's long-term data use needs.

Data Use Framework: Plan Mission and Goals • What is the point? Identification and prioritization of users • Who are we serving? Identification of uses • What types of decisions and/or actions will the system inform?
Data Use Framework: Create Stakeholder engagement • How do we involve those whom we intend to serve?
Data Use Framework: Create Stakeholder engagement • How do we involve those whom we intend to serve? Products/Resources • What types of products/ resources will the SLDS generate?
Data Use Framework: Create Stakeholder engagement • How do we involve those whom we intend to serve? Products/Resources • What types of products/ resources will the SLDS generate? Delivery • How will you deliver data to key users?
Data Use Framework: Support User support • How will users know how to use the system? • How will users understand the data provided by the system? • How will users know what to do with the data provided by the system?
Data Use Framework: Support(continued) Evolution and Sustainability • How do we continue to support users and their needs as they expand and evolve? • How do we make the system an essential resource for users? • How do we ensure we have the resources to continue meeting users’ needs?
Technology • Considerations
Technological Consideration How do you make sure your Part C and 619 data system design aligns to the needs of the intended users? How do you make sure that your Part C and 619 data systems create products and reports that meet the needs of your users? How do you make sure that you build supports in the Part C and 619 data systems to ensure use by the intended audience?
Self-Assessment Based on the framework presented what would you say are your areas of strength in your Part C or 619 data system work? Based on the framework presented what would you say are your areas of challenge in your Part C or 619 data system work?
