What does CCSS mean for ME: • The Standards: • Are NOT optional • Will not go away if you ignore them • Will be implemented fully next year in K-8th • Will replace the current AR Frameworks • Will be supported by Professional Development, Learning Services, and Administration • Will be monitored for implementation • Are currently being developed in 9th-12th

  6. What are the problems? • This year there will be gaps in learning, particularly in math • We will continue to take the Benchmark Exams • The curriculum will evolve over time • We are not all comfortable with change • We will need to find time to work and learn together

  8. How did PCSSD develop the curriculum? • Volunteers from all schools • Monthly Saturday meetings • Working closely with the Professional Development Division of ADE • Unpacking Standards • Gates Units for ELA • Research • Lots of hard work!!!

  9. What is the PD plan for PCSSD this Spring? • 4 Tuesdays for 3-5 and 4 Thursdays for 6-8 • Meet for 3 hours • Meet in Feeder Patterns for Elementary • Meet with half the District for Middle Schools

  10. Topics to be Covered in PD this Spring • Overview and Rigor • Performance-Based Assessments (formative, interim and summative) and Instructional Strategies • Technology and Project-Based Learning • Unpacking the Standards and Working with the Wiki Units created by your colleagues
