  3. AIR TRAFFIC IN 2013 • Global : 33 million flights • Europe : 10 million flights • Cyprus : 280,000 flights • TRAFFIC FORECAST • Increase by 50% in 2030 to reach approx. 15 millions • Increase of capacity by 17% till 2030 • Leading to a 5 minute delay per flight and 2 m. unaccommodated

  4. ACCIDENTS IN 2013 • 2009 : 102 accidents leading to 655 fatalities • 2013 : 90 accidents leading to 173 fatalities • MAIN REASONS FOR IMPROVEMENTS • human factors • training • technology • procedures • regulation • supervision • regional and international cooperation • e.t.c.

  5. MAIN PLAYERS IN AVIATION • National level : government regulators, ANSPS, Airports, ministries of finance, • European level : EC, EASA, EUROCONTROL, IATA, CANSO , e.t.c • Global level : ICAO

FSF-MED : WHERE DO WE FIT IN ALL THESE • We cannot regulate, we cannot supervise we cannot provide executive service, , we cannot decide. • What we can do , is what we are doing today : • To facilitate raising awareness and educating on specific issues. • To facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas . • To foster cooperation between regions and countries. • To critisizethe decision makers when is necessary.

FSF –MED : HAVE WE SUCCEEDED? • 2) REGIONAL TECHNICAL SEMINARS • These are of more technical nature and are organized in cooperation with our regional partners : • February 2010 : “ Emergency and contingency planning “ • November 2011 ( Bucharest Romania) : Emergency and contingency procedures “ • Nevember 2012 ( Athens Greece ) : Civil-Military coordination in ATC • November 2013 ( Tel Aviv ) : “ Civil aviation in M.East” • March 2014 : “ Seminar for general and light aviation”

FSF –MED : HAVE WE SUCCEEDED? • 3)INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS • FSF-MED concluded Memoranda of Cooperation with the following Organisations: • Ministry of Communications and Works • Russian Flight Safety Foundation • Romanian Aeronautical Association • Fisher Institute of Israel • ICAO European Office

FSF –MED : HAVE WE SUCCEEDED? • 4) REGIONAL COOPERATION IN PROJECTS • In cooperation with the Fisher Institute and AOPA of Israel , as well as the Romanian Aeronautical Association, a project for the safety of general aviation is currently under discussion. Once is completed and if successful , Cyprus will be a base . • Also , in cooperation with the Fisher institute of Israel and under the auspices of the Ministries of Transport of Cyprus and Israel, FSF-MED is working on a feasibility study regarding common safety procedures for the helicopter flights to and from the two countries to the offshore platforms in the two EEZ of Cyprus and Israel.
