  1. Timely Diagnosis: Where Do We Want To Go And How Do We Get There?

  2. Introduction • Who we are and how this all began

  3. What we’ve been doing Mapping: • What we understand timely diagnosis to mean • Who’s currently doing what to promote timely diagnosis • What the perceived barriers are • What can be done to overcome them

  4. How we’ve been doing it Structured interviews with 20+ leading DAA member organisations Round tables (eg policy, research, care homes) Debates (eg people with dementia, carers, GPs)

  5. APPG We’ve been working closely with the APPG team – sharing notes, inviting them to round tables – and we expect to feed our output into their inquiry

  6. Headline conclusions - Sell the benefits • - Education, education, education • - Pull the right levers

  7. What happens next? Working out where we are is just the start of a journey. The next critical step is to work out where we want to get to. We have already started exploring best practice in places like South Staffs and Northern Ireland, and funding permitting, we hope this will be the subject of our next report

  8. What happens after that? By the time the APPG reports, we hope to be in a position to facilitate a fully fledged DAA campaign to promote timely diagnosis within a health and social care framework that is focussed on the needs of the person, not the system

  9. Cart, meet horse First, though, we need your guidance as to how best to wrap up the first phase of the work – what form the final report should take, and how it can best support the DAA’s contribution to the APPG inquiry.
