About the REAP Program… • The Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) is offered through the USDA Rural Development • Provides assistance to agricultural and rural small businesses for energy efficiency improvements or renewable energy installations
About the REAP Program… • Funding available to cover 25% of initial cost of the project • Remaining project costs are eligible for a government loan • Applicants compete within the state and nationally for funding • For more information, refer to the site: http://www.rurdev.usda.gov/ky/renewable%20energy_grant.htm
UK Audit Services • In order to submit a REAP application, an energy audit must be performed on the facility • The Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Department received a grant from the USDA Rural Development to pay for 75% of the cost of the audit, with the owner paying the remaining 25% • The fee for UK to perform an audit is $250

How to Get Started… • Refer individuals to the audit program website or have them contact a UK auditor • The auditor will collect initial operation information and determine whether to proceed or not. • Depending on the facility, the auditor may schedule a site visit or collect information over the phone
How to Get Started… • The auditor will refer the individual to a grant writer to complete the grant application • UK can only submit the technical portion of the grant • Individuals need to be prepared to supply the information on the following slide…
Information the Energy Auditor will Need • 24 month history of gas records (LP or natural) and electric use • Must contain quantity of energy used (gallons, ccf, kWh) and the cost • A monthly or by delivery record is preferred • Current operation production details: • Harvest and grain drying records, daily milk production, poultry bird production, etc. • Detailed cost estimate for each improvement included in the application • Hired labor included
