Grades 6-8School-Based Middle GATE (“A&E/MERIT”) • Curriculum is accelerated and/or enriched, depending upon the subject area. • Programs located in WCPS middle schools. • Identified through the following: • Aptitude: Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (grades 1, 5) • Performance: 85th + percentile on MAP testing • Performance: advanced level on MSA • Potential: parent and teacher nomination/checklist/referral

Grades 2-5 and 6-8Elementary and Middle Magnet Programs • Programs are designed for the most highly-gifted students in the county. • All diploma-bound students are screened for aptitude during grades one and five. • Eligible students are invited to apply for magnet programs, receiving a link to the application and an invitation to attend the school-based open house events. • Students may apply to more than one program; however, they must complete an interview and task at each school to which they apply.
