  2. 2010 AchievementsPaved Way and created Momentum • At the start point in 2010 • There was a paved way to the GEO-Ministerial • Activities of CEOS agencies were defined as momentum • CEOS Key Deliverables • Global Monitoring of Greenhouse Gases from Space (GMGGS) • CEOS Contribution to the GEO Forest Carbon Tracking (FCT) • CEOS Working Group on Climate and Agency Activities on Climate • Promoting Data Democracy World wide

  3. Global Monitoring of Greenhouse Gases from Space • Aqua/AIRS, ENVISAT/SCIAMACHY and GOSAT/TANSO-FTS proved the importance of Greenhouse gases monitoring from space. • The achievements stimulate the GEO Carbon CoP and were reflected in the “GEO Carbon Strategy” • CTF has formulated “CEOS response to the GEO Carbon strategy report” • Future systems e.g. GOSAT Follow on, Carbonsat, OCO-2 are considered.

  4. CEOS Contribution to the GEO Forest Carbon Tracking • CEOS Role in FCT was defined at the SIT-23 in Miami, and started the data acquisition campaign. • Data Acquisition campaigns were conducted for 11 ND sites - wall to wall • GEO proposed the GFOI concept paper at the GEO-VII in Beijing based on the result of CEOS contribution • “The CEOS Strategy for Space Data Coverage and Continuity in Support of the GEO GFOI and FCT Task” has been documented to show continuity and coverage plans year by year for 2010 – 2015 (SIT 25-10 action)

  5. CEOS Working Group on Climate and Agency Activities on Climate • CEOS-GCOS Implementation plan has been maintained since 2004 and CEOS contribution was recognized at UNFCCC COP • To respond to ECV by ECV level, the Working Group on Climate was established at the CEOS Plenary in Rio • The first WG meeting was held in Frascati in May 2011 • As a CEOS contribution, CEOS participate in the writing team of “Strategy Towards an Architecture for Climate Monitoring from Space”

  6. Promoting Data Democracy World wide • Data Democracy for developing countries requires dataset access, software and tools, data dissemination and capacity development • Data Democracy represents the ‘GEO Spirit’ • Activities are defined as GEO task • Level up to a standing activity as WG was suggested (Plenary-24) • WGCBDD is expected to be established at this Plenary by merged with WGEdu • * Working Group on Capacity Building and Data Democracy

  7. CEOS Other Deliverables • Global Earth Observations System of Systems (GEOSS) Quality Assurance Strategy • Coordinating CEOS Contributions to GEOSS in Education, Training and Capacity Building for Satellite Remote Sensing Applications • Facilitating Access to Space Data • CEOS Virtual Constellations for GEO • CEOS Activities in Support of Disaster Management • Global Digital Elevation Model (DEM) Assessment • Global Sea Level Rise • The Earth Observation Handbook and the CEOS • Missions, Instruments and Measurements Database • Remote Sensing Contributions to Public Health • management of Energy Sources

  8. 2011 Emerging Inititatives • Confirmed initiatives in the 2011 CEOS WP • Geohazards Supersites • JECAM • Water cycle • Biodiversity • Proposed initiatives • Polar Ecosystems (Introduced at the SIT-26) • GEO-GLAM • CEOS Contribution to Disaster Management These will be discussed at this Plenary later at the item 13-15 and 16 for discussion.

  9. Recommendations from outgoing SIT Chair • Visibility to the Stakeholders • GEO, UNFCCC, Policymakers etc… • Documentation and Publication • e.g. “Satellites, Science, and Society”, Rio & Lucca statement • Creation of the Tangible outcome • Virtual Constellations, FCT, CTF • Importance of the teamwork • Collaboration among CEOS & SIT Chairs, CEO/DCEO, SEO and task leaders Thank you very much for your support to the 2010-2011 SIT Chair!
