  2. Space is: • A three dimensional (3/D) volume that can be empty or full of objects. • Can you think of an example from your world?

  3. Positive Space • Represents an object or any of the subjects in an artwork. • Ex. A chair, person, etc.. The yellow chair is the positive space.

  4. Negative Space • The space around or between any objects or subjects in the artwork. • Yellow is the negative space… The yellow space between the chair is the negative space.

  5. Another sample of Negative Space The only thing drawn are the shapes arount the chair (not the chair itself).

  6. Negative space: • See the vase in the middle, or the two men? • Either can be the negative space.

  7. Deep Space

  8. Shallow Space • This one has depth, but the other is deeper. • One thing is in front of another showing depth. (the third dimension)

  9. Another Cezanne showing Depth • Again shows depth without a relatively DEEP space. • Compared to the landscape this is a more shallow Space.
