Is the end of paper the end? • Will it be truly paperless in the foreseeable? • It’s not like the digital TV switch over • There will still be case notes to be managed and maintained • The quality and content remain as important • But it is going to be very different ART
The route to the new world • Paper • EDMS – scan on demand and update • Full EDMS • EPR – paper light/less FDGD
Strategic direction • Are you just librarians or are you professionals? • Do you look after case notes or truly support clinical care? • Do you just file or do you have a duty around quality? GFPO
Quality assurance • Who are the experts in case note content and record keeping standards? • Who is auditing case notes and record keeping? • Who is preparing notes for scanning? • Who is training those responsible for completion input in the required standards? • Do you work with DQ or leave that to them? LOBNH
EDMS • Garbage in garbage out • Updates start as paper! • Managing archives and disposals MFC
Working with data quality • If you leave it to DQ teams they’ll take over • Can you get involved in data validation and trend monitoring etc. • Accuracy checks PITA
Is the end of paper the end? The increasing use of electronic records and the implications for health records as a primary source of information have to be recognised, as does the increasing role and right that service users have to understand and influence the information held about them. There are therefore four main elements for checking accuracy of data: • checking against the health record; • checking with external systems; • checking items with service users (see requirement 9-402); • checking the process for information capture. TOBAS
Corporate records • Many orgs are weak in corporate records management • They don’t have the skills or capacity in corporate areas • Know any one who might have? TMB
Another word from the wise….. “Things are going great, and they're only getting better The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades” Timbuk 3
