  2. The Difference Between a Butterfly and a Moth Butterfly • Fly in the day • Have slender bodies • Have thin antennae with knobs on the ends • More colorful Moth • Fly at night • Have fatter bodies • Have feathery antennae • Usually darker in color

  3. Similarities Between a Butterfly and a Moth • Insects • Have four wings • Three body parts • Use camouflage • Go through a life cycle

  4. Four Stages of the Life Cycle • 1st – Egg • 2nd - Larva • 3rd – Chrysalis • 4th – Adult (Butterfly)

  5. Egg • A Butterfly lays some eggs on a leaf.

  6. Larva • A tiny caterpillar, or larva crawls out of an egg. • The larva eats and eats. It sheds its skin and grows bigger and fatter.

  7. Chrysalis • The caterpillar becomes a pupa covered by a hard shell called a chrysalis.

  8. Adult • A new butterfly breaks out of the chrysalis. Soon it will fly away.
