Two (2) existing monopole traffic signals (Yellow Jacket Way and Northgate Plaza) are painted forest green.
New traffic signal masts and arms included in the project specifications can be painted black. • Black tends to be a “timeless color”, less likely to fall out of style. • Black tends to blend in better with surroundings; makes infrastructure look less industrial.
Tear Drop Mongoose Two types of light fixtures may be used –“Tear Drop” or “Mongoose”. Light distribution pattern of Tear Drop style light would require that fixtures be closely spaced along both sides of the roadway. Superior light distribution pattern of adjustable Mongoose style light would require fewer fixtures, installed on only one side of the roadway. Light fixtures and supporting poles would be painted to match the color of the traffic signals installed as part of the project.
There are approximately 43 existing 250 Watt Cobra Head Street lights located along US 27 from Center Streetto Akron Drive. The City is currently paying a total of $663.92 per month to operate these fixtures (at a monthly cost of $15.44 per light). • The Subject Area extends 6,300’+ along US 27 from Akron Drive to Center Street. • If Tear Drop style lights are used they will need to be spaced approximately 150’ to 185’ apart on both sides of the roadway. Between 68 and 84 light fixtures will be required, depending on spacing. • If Mongoose style lights are used they can be spaced approximately 250’ apart on one side of the roadway. A minimum of 26 light fixtures will be required. • Estimated number of light fixtures required: • Tear Drop fixtures - 68 lights (minimum) • Mongoose fixtures - 26 lights (minimum) • Estimated cost of installation: • Tear Drop - 68 Lights @ $3,200 per light (pole, base, light, arm, etc) = $217,920 • Mongoose - 26 lights @ $3,200 per light (pole, base, light, arm, etc) = $ 83,200 • Minimum cost savings that can be achieved using Mongoose lights: $134,720* • *Does not include any cost savings associated with installation of conduit. Tear Drop fixtures require conduit installation on both sides of the roadway. Mongoose fixtures only require conduit installation on one side.
The approximate cost to operate each new light fixture ($ cost is the same for both types of light fixtures) is $14.28 per light per month. • Monthly cost to operate Tear Drop lights: 68 x $14.28 = $971.04 • Monthly cost to operate Mongoose lights: 26 x $14.28 = $371.28 • Estimated monthly cost savings using Mongoose lights: $599.76 • Estimated cost savings that can be achieved operating Mongoose lights vs. existing Cobra Head lights: $3,511.68 annually. • Benefits of selecting Mongoose type light fixtures over Tear Drop: • Significantly lower installation cost. • Lower operating and maintenance costs. • Will deliver noticeable cost savings compared to existing Cobra Head lights.
