IBM Director 5.10Topic : Miscellaneous Items (xSeries) Presenter’s Name : Rajat Jain (rjain@us.ibm.com)and Title
Basic Overview • Reduced Agent Footprint : Migrate MPA CIM provider function into a native Pegasus providers • Removal of MPA and BladeCenter tasks from Director’s Console and provide a launch point to either the embedded web or command line interface • Auto renaming chassis and platform managed entities during discovery • Base support for Scalability Systems Manager which includes discovery, associations, power control
Reduced Agent Footprint : Migrate MPA CIM provider function into a native Pegasus providers • In order to reduce the memory footprint on Director agents, the MPA CIM provider was ported from JAVA based SUN WBEM implementation to C/C++ based Pegasus. • Except for a memory footprint reduction on the agent, there is no other change in the functionality of the MPA CIM provider. • The MPA CIM provider instrumentation for the following : • Inventory data for firmware VPD (RSA’s only) and network configuration (RSA’s, BMCs, ASMPA) • Support for event logs, firmware VPD, power/restart info in the Web based access
Removal of MPA and BladeCenter tasks from Director’s Console and provide a launch point to either the embedded web or command line interface • As per recommendation of xSeries marketing team, the existing MPA and BladeCenter GUIs in IBM Director were phased out. IBM Director will be a launch-point to either the web interface or a command line interface to the managed end point. Most users just require the ability to configure a smaller set of parameters on the service processors. • Therefore, in Director 5.10, the Management Processor Assistant and the BladeCenter Assistant GUIs will not be available. • Please note that all other function (e.g. Alerting, Discovery, Inventory, Power Management, Blue Light etc.) will not be affected.
Auto renaming chassis and platform managed entities during discovery • Previously, the Auto renaming convention in the Director Server preferences panel did not apply to newly discovered objects. • Users will now have the ability to rename Chassis Managed Objects and Physical Platforms during discovery. • There is no change to the action performed by the auto-renaming function, except that it will also be provided for the new Physical Platforms and BladeCenter Chassis which are discovered by the IBM Director Server.
Base support for Scalability Systems Manager which includes discovery, associations, power control • In 5.10 there is no ability to configure partitions and complexes due to the removal of the Scalability Systems Manager. • However, there is support for discovering the Complexes , Partitions and Nodes, and providing the association between these objects. • The support for power control, alerting etc. for the above objects is still available in 5.10
