  2. There are many things we can do to help you! • We are here to help you navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of proposal writing and… • Help you in the management of your awarded grants • We can help you identify funding sources.. • We can assist you in the preparation of your proposal…

  3. How Can We Help You Identify Funding Sources? • Well, we start by asking YOU what sort of project you are interested in doing.... • By giving us keywords we can help you in your search!

  4. Maybe you want to.... • Develop an innovative curriculum? • Design a counseling program for a specific student group? • Or maybe you want to pack your suitcase and travel?

  5. Any of these might be possible! • First, we’d try a grant search to find sponsors interested in funding your type of project

  6. How Do We Do This? • The Research Foundation belongs to the Grant Resource Center of AASCU (American Association of State Colleges and Universities) • As part of our membership fee, we are provided with a grant-searching database (GrantSearch)

  7. What does this database consist of? • Descriptions and contact information for nearly 2000 federal and private funding programs • Each entry outlines the overall program purpose and priorities, deadlines, and contact information.

  8. GrantSearch Availability • Grant Search has recently become a web-based tool • This is available at our office or via a link on our website: rf.buffalostate.edu

  9. We also subscribe to SPIN • The Sponsored Program Information Network (SPIN) is a service provided by InfoEd Inc. • This database is similar to GrantSearch and is available from our web page...or you can make an appointment to do a search with us at our office in Bishop Hall

  10. How to Get To SPIN: • Go directly to the Research Foundation website – http://rf.buffalostate.edu • Click on SPIN • Type a word in Quick Search or Click Advanced Search • Enter Keyword (objectives or synopsis)

  11. We Can Help With Your Searches....: • We can conduct the search for you by using information you give us or.... • We can work together with you to search for possibilities

  12. And, if you need help.... • Give us a call at ext. 3047 and we’ll be happy to assist you with your search or obtain additional information for sources you’ve identified! • Remember, we’re here to make it easier for YOU!

  13. You can also sign up for SMARTS • This is a service also provided by Info Ed (same company that manages SPIN) • It will send a “funding opportunity” email based on keywords you select

  14. Signing Up for SMARTS • It’s easy to sign up for the SMARTS service..it will require about 30 minutes of your time • By meeting with us - we can make sure you choose the right number of keywords • You can deactivate your status if necessary – just call us

  15. Even if you’re not quite ready to submit a proposal… • We will keep you informed of opportunities • We have departmental email distribution lists - you will be added to your department list…therefore please make sure we have an accurate e-mail address (prefer campus)

  16. If you’d like to meet with us-- • We’ll meet with you individually...

  17. Or With A Group.... • Faculty whose interests coincide • We’ll assist with collaborative efforts--with faculty from other colleges and universities or with local industries and/or community agencies

  18. PROPOSAL PREPARATION • We’ll help you as much or as little as you like.... • Searching, preparing, submitting

Once you decide where to apply: • We’ll help with one of the hardest aspects of proposal preparation – READING THE DIRECTIONS ! • This may seem silly, but Requests for Proposals (RFP) are often confusing, tedious, and very specific--we can help by making sure you don’t lose out on funding because of a technicality

  20. We Can Also Help By: • Editing your narrative; • Assisting you in writing your proposal; • Gathering facts and figures you might need; • Completing the forms necessary for submission

  21. Budget • Assist you in preparing budgets

  22. Want to enhance your proposals ? We can help ! • We can use popular desktop publishing programs to make data easier to read and more eye-catching

  23. And to make your proposal stand out even more.... • We have a high-speed copier to assist in assembling your final product. • And we have a color printer to enhance your charts and graphs!

  24. And when that proposal is ready to go.... • We’ll copy it, pack it up, and ship it to your sponsor so that it gets there ON TIME !
