  2. As a … • Know the contact person for the athlete. • Assign someone to present information to each sports team. • Ensure that curriculum meets basic college requirements • Be willing to help students, parents, and coaches with questions. Provide them with a handout!

  3. Steps Athletes Must Take • NCAA Division I or II • Freshman and Sophomores: Start planning now!!! • Work hard to get the best grades possible. • Take classes that match your school’s NCAA list of Approved Core Courses. • Access and print your high school’s list at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net

  4. Steps Athletes Must Take • Juniors: register at www.ncaaclearinghouse.netand complete the amateurism questionnaire • Register for the ACT, SAT, or both. Use the Eligibility Center code “9999” for CFHS • Double check your courses and make sure they align • Request that your guidance counselor send an official transcript to the Eligibility Center after completing your junior year!

  5. Steps Athletes Must Take • Seniors: check with guidance and the Eligibility Center to see what courses you have left. • Take the SAT, ACT, or both again. You can use the best scores! • Continue to work hard and get the best grades possible.

  6. Definition of a Core Course • A course that qualifies for high school graduation in one or more of the following: English, Mathematics, Natural or Physical Science, Foreign Language, or Nondoctrinal Religion or Philosophy • Considered a four-year college preparatory • Taught at or above the high school’s regular academic level • For Math: is at at the level of Algebra 1 or higher • Taught by a qualified instructor as defined by the appropriate academic authority.

  7. Core Course Requirements

NCAA Approved Courses for CFHS • English: English 1, 2, 3, 4 or 1, 2, 3 Honors or AP English • Social Science: Global Studies 1 or 2 or 1 or 2 Honors, US History, AP American History, American Government & Economics, Psychology, Current Events • Mathematics: Algebra 1, 2, 3 or 1, 2, 3 Honors, Trigonometry, Geometry or Geometry Honors, Pre Calculus or Pre Calculus Honors, AP Calculus (Math Tech 1 and 2 can each count as a maximum of ½ credit) • Natural/Physical Science: Physical Science or Physical Science Honors, Biology 1 or 2, Biology 1 Honors, AP Biology, Chemistry 1 or Chemistry 1 Honors, AP Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, Marine Science, Physics or Physics Honors • World Language: French 1, 2, 3 German 1, 2, 3 Spanish 1, 2, 3 German 110, Spanish 101 or 102

  9. SAT and/or ACT • Be sure to enter the code “9999” when registering for the SAT or ACT • This will request for your official test scores to be sent directly to the eligibility center!

Registering for the TESTS! • Register online for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com • Test Dates: Dec 4, Jan 22, March 12, May 7, June 4 • Deadlines: Oct 29, Dec 14, Feb 3, March 24, April 28 • Register online for the ACT at www.actstudent.org • Test Dates: Dec 11, Feb 12, April 9, June 11 • Deadline: Nov 5, Jan 4, March 4, May 6

  11. Graduate on Time • Graduation on time means…if your high school graduation takes place on June 1st, you have to graduate on June 1st. If you do not graduate that day, you have not graduated on time! • If you do not graduate on time, in eight semesters, no core courses taken after the eighth semester will be counted toward your NCAA academic-eligibility requirements.

  12. Financial Aid • If you are academically eligible at an NCAA Division I or II institution, you may receive athletics-based financial aid from the school. Division I or II financial aid may include tuition and fees, room and board, and/or books. • Division III institutions do not award financial aid based on athletic ability. A Division III institution may award need-based or academically related financial aid.
