Two-FF Method for Coupling a Fire Hose • When connecting fire hoses with threaded couplings, you have to make sure the threads are properly aligned so the male and female couplings will engage fully. • If there is any leakage after the hose is filled with water, a spanner wrench can be used to gently tighten the couplings until the leakage is stopped. • The couplings are constructed with either rocker lugs, or rocker pins, to engage a spanner wrench. • Higbee indicators show the position where the ends of the threads on a pair of couplings are properly aligned with each other.
Skill Drill 16-3Performing the Two-Fire Fighter Method of Coupling a Fire Hose(1 of 3) 1. Pick up the male end of the coupling. Grasp it behind the coupling and hold it against the body. 2. The second fire fighter holds the female coupling firmly with both hands.
Skill Drill 16-3Performing the Two-Fire Fighter Method of Coupling a Fire Hose(2 of 3) 3. The second fire fighter brings the female coupling to the male coupling. 4. The second fire fighter aligns the female coupling with the male coupling. Use the Higbee indicators.
Skill Drill 16-3Performing the Two-Fire Fighter Method of Coupling a Fire Hose(3 of 3) 5. The second fire fighter turns the female coupling counterclockwise until it clicks, which indicates that the threads are aligned. 6. Turn the female coupling clockwise to couple the hoses.
