  2. Composting at the Grille A recent waste audit found: • 66% of the trash thrown away in Spangler could have been composted • Only 5% of total trash was actually trash

  3. What You Can Do • The Grille has recently added composting • When clearing your plate in the Grille, separate out composting into the new composting bins

  4. Benefits of Composting • Reduces or eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers • Prevents contamination of the groundwater at landfills by reducing creation of methane gas and leachates • Generates high-nutrient organic material that can be used to improve soil quality and can be sold as a marketable commodity • Diverts organic materials from landfills extending their life
