Geothermal is a warming and cooling system which comes from the earth. The adjective geothermal originates from the Greek roots geo, meaning earth, and thermos, meaning heat. • Here is some information on geothermal: • Miners first noticed Geothermal in the Middle Ages when deep mines were warm at the bottom. Solid rock grows steadily warmer with depth. On average geothermal energyis about 1 degree C for each 40 m in depth, or 25°C per kilometer. In detail, the geothermal energy is much higher and lower in different places. High gradients, or hot near the surface, requires one of these two things: hot magma rising close to the surface, or abundant cracks allowing groundwater to carry heat efficiently to the surface. Either one is sufficient for energy production, but having both is best.
How to use Geothermal to heat and cool a house: • Machines dig down into the earth until the temperature is a consistent 60 degrees. • Now they put PVC pipe in the hole. • Then another PVC pipe in the first PVC pipe. • They pump a liquid in between the inside and outside pipes. This liquid helps capture heat and sends to the inside pipe which is full of water. In order to get the heat into your house, the water is pumped, which you could use solar energy to run the pump.
If people will use Geothermal we would use less oil that’s in the earth. We will run out oil one day. Oil also pollutes the environment.
