1. INTER HOUSE MATHS QUIZ COMPETITION Math’s quiz is a brief assessment used in education to measure growth in knowledge, abilities and skills. It helps to enhance the interest in the students towards the subject and also creates a conducive environment to work in groups out of the classroom. Mental Math is an ability to calculate and get a correct answer without using pencil & paper or any other electronic devices. Research has shown that in daily life at least 75% of all calculations are done mentally by adults. Many people often assume that learning mental arithmetic is merely a method to improve the speed and accuracy of calculations as it also develops mental abilities like concentration, observation, visualization & imagination and memory. A little competition can inspire math students to greater achievement. It challenges students to use their math skills in new and creative ways. It also provides a challenging and engaging mathematical experience that is both competitive and educational. As part of extended learning, Inter House Math’s Quiz competition was conducted in Bal Bharati Public School for classes I to X on 26thAugust 2023. The quiz was conducted in three categories (Sub. Junior, Junior and Senior). Students of all houses from grade I to grade X participated in the quiz. Teachers as well as students gathered in the auditorium, and the rules and regulations were explained. There were total five rounds. Every question carried one marks each and there were time constraints for each round. The Main objective of the quiz was to encourage children to look beyond their textual knowledge and relieve the tension of their daily work routine. Children had a good team spirit wherein “small to big” all students were busy and contributed positively to make their team win. The winning team was selected on the basis of their average scores. The quiz assessed the Logical & Analytical skills of the students with a varying degree of difficulty and indeed provided a learning experience to all participants to further improve their mental math skills. In sub junior category first position was bagged by Ashoka House, second by Tagore House and third by Raman & Shivaji House. In junior category first position was bagged by Tagore House, second by Shivaji & Raman House and third by Ashoka House. In senior category first position was bagged by Raman House, second by Ashoka House and third by Tagore House. Experience says learning mathematics can be made easier and enjoyable if our curriculum includes mathematical activities and games. Math’s Quiz encourages attracts alerts and brings in an open-minded attitude among youngsters which helps them to develop clarity in their thinking. The event concluded with the speech of worthy Headmaster, who appreciated the efforts of the teachers and students while encouraging and motivating them to come forward and embrace their strength.
