Professional Development(Professional Development Fund) • PDRP ($68,092 : 50%) - This money is predominantly used in two ways: course work and attendance at conferences. • Staff Development ($590,000) - School Based Staff Development - Grow Your Own : Coursework for Teaching Assistants - Mandt Training and Recertification - National Board Certified Teacher (application & documentation compensation) - NewTeacher Orientation - Responsive Classroom - Stipends – Staff Development Class Instructors for Opportunities - Staff Development (professional development books, institutional professional memberships) - Subs for teacher participation in division level, feeder pattern PLC work

Professional Development(Federal Programs) • Title I and II Funds ($70,000) -Various course work through VCU and UVA in the areas of literature, reading, word study, and math. - Teachers attending conferences - Training for Lead and Instructional Coaches • Special Education Funds ($1,418) - Specialized training during pre-school work for administration, social work and administration - ARRA ($28,000) Consultants, registrations and tuition • Career and Technical Education (Carl Perkins Money: $9,000) - Conferences - Course Work – UVA eTeaching program - Content-specific local workshops

Professional Development(Department of Instruction) • Community Engagement (~$15,825) - Contracted services and materials to provide in-service for Diversity Resource Teachers (DRTs) and Culturally Responsive Teaching - Substitutes for DRTs to attend training - Conference participation • Guidance (~$3,000) - State Conferences • Instruction (~$250,699) - Avid, Asia Society Conference, and International Baccalaureate - Professional Learning Communities - State and National Conferences : NASSP, VASCD, ACTFL, SPQA, VCA - Curriculum, Assessment and Instruction

Professional Development(Building Level) • Programs such as Being a Writer and Responsive Classrooms (partially funded by school level Title 1 grants), and Handwriting Without Tears, Expeditionary Learning • Conferences:ASCD, Literacy Work Stations, Monticello Reading Conference • Contracted services: Margo Figgins (UVA professor – writing focus), Ron Nash (student engagement), and Isabel McLean (Being a Writer) • Job Embedded: Teacher led and supported in classrooms by Instructional Coaches – assessment analysis, effective teaching strategies, book clubs/reviews, literacy (vocabulary strategies, Cornell note taking, reading comprehension), and interactive notebooks, use of technology SMART boards, student response systems, iPods, Livescribe Pulse Pens,GoogleDocs, Twitter, flip cameras, Personal Learning Plans, Weather projects using Green Screens
