The Lightening Thief – My Mother Teaches Me Bullfighting Vocabulary • flitted – (verb) - to move lightly and quickly; to flutter, like a bird • Grover’s eyes flitted to the rearview mirror. • satyrs – (noun) goatlike men who drank and chased the nymphs • There are satyrs who would trample you underhoof for such an insult! • hallucination – (noun) A false perception that appears to be real • We hoped you’d think the Kindly One was a hallucination. • miffed – (verb) to be angry or offended by an action or a comment. • Grover was obviously still miffed about the donkey comment. • minions– (noun) a favorite follower of someone in power • “It’s nobody much, just the Lord of the Dead and a few of his blood-thirstiest minions.” • silhouette – (noun) the outline of a solid figure as cast by its shadow • It was a dark silhouette of a huge guy, like a football player. • reeked – (verb) to give off a strong, unpleasant odor; to stink • He reeked like rotten meat. • disintegrate – (verb) to break apart into pieces or parts; to shatter • He flailed, clawing at his chest, then began to disintegrate like crumbling sand, blown away in chunks by the wind, the same way Mrs. Dodds had burst apart.
