  1. why I want to teach? By: Jasmine Joy swims 3/21/13 "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin

  2. InTASC standard • Standard #8: Instructional Strategies • The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways. • Name of Artifact: Professional Development Plan • Date: March 21, 2013 • Course: ECUC: 101 • Brief Description: For this assignment, I made a power point talking about why I want to be a teacher, different teaching traits I have, what kind of student I would like to teach, the community in which I want to teach in and how I can contribute on being a teacher. • Rational: To document my understanding of Standard #8 Instructional Strategies, I am using different strategies such as power point to encourage the class to develop deep understanding in my education career

  3. Reasons for wanting to teach • As a child, I always wanted to be a teacher. • I have a passion for children. • I am a good motivator to children. • I want to see others succeed. • I want to make children better people for the real world. "Real success is finding your lifework in the work that you love."  David McCullough

  4. Effective teacher traits • I am nice but firm. • Good at teaching new things. • I am patient • I am humble • I am always positive • I have high expectation “Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” –Bob Talber

  5. Student Characteristics • I want my students to have an open mind. • I want my students to be comfortable with me as a teacher. • I want my student to always have a positive mind. • I want my student to know that I am there to help them succeed. • I want my students to be very respectful and caring.

  6. Community Characteristics • To be honest, I do not really care about what environment the school is in. Of course I would like to be in a nice area because I know I’ll feel safe, but I know how it feels to be in rough environment because my own high school was not in the best environment. So in all honesty, it really does not matter, as long as I can change the little children’s lives.

  7. Contributions to the profession • I will meet the needs of the student and the community by doing what ever it takes to get my students to the next level. I will go above and beyond to make sure my students are ready for the real world (depending on the grade level). I would literally go out of my way to do things for my students and community because I know without that nothing will get accomplished. "Ideal teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross, then having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create bridges of their own." –Nikos Kazantzakis
