Wellfleet Harbor - basic info and background: • Very shallow area: see bathymetry map (slide 8) • Benthic substrate includes sand, gravel, mud and SAV (slide 9); • Historically has been used for shellfishing and for aquaculture (American Oyster (Crassostrea virginica), Quahog (Mercenaria mercenaria), Soft shell clam (Mya arenaria), and Bay Scallop (Agropectin irradians)
List of four potential activities planned for the Wellfleet Harbor: • Marine sanctuary for shellfish • Marina • Sand dredging area(s) • Tourist resort (recreational area)
Selected five sites/areas will be used for four planned activities: Middle Meadows Blackfish Creek Loagy Bay Western Flats of Lieutenant Island Creek North of Audubon Sanctuary
Your task is to: • Based on the very basic environmental and socio-economic assessments of the Wellfleet Harbor area explain and justify where would you place four activities and how did you decide for which activity each site would be suitable for; • Design your suggested management plan and potential scenario by using given maps to place your uses; • What type of indicators would you use to monitor and evaluate your suggested management plan? (select 4 for environmental and 4 socio-economic aspects of evaluation and monitoring) • Please cite if you use web information and related references!!!! • Your final exam should not be longer than 3 pages.
