2. Program Objectives Instill ethics, sportsmanship, and responsibility. Develop leadership skills. Promote the safe storage and handling of firearms and archery equipment. Expand 4-H membership.

3. California 4-H Shooting Sports Participation • 4,741 4-H members were enrolled in the project during 2018-2019. • 683 4-H leaders were enrolled in the project during 2018-2019. • 431 4-H members registered for the 2019 State Matches. • 32 4-H leaders registered for the 2019 State Match.

4. The California 4-H Shooting Sports Program currently offers seven disciplines.

12. National Safety Policies • The purpose of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program is to promote youth development through the safe and responsible use of archery equipment and firearms. The National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee is unequivocally opposed to and prohibits: • Pointing any type of firearm including air guns, paintball guns, laser guns or laser sighting devices at any person • Use of any humanoid targets for any purpose • Use of targets that contain explosives, flammables, or canisters of compressed gas

13. Youth Participation Criteria • Must be 9 years old or in the 4th grade by December 31st. • Project must be instructed by leader certified in the discipline being offered. • Subject to approval of project leader and member’s ability to follow instruction and safety rules. • Participation in Muzzle Loading discipline requires a minimum of one year prior participation in another discipline.

14. Opportunities for Teens • Teen Leaders may participate in training w/adults. • State Incentive & Recognition Award program. • 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador program.

15. Adult Volunteer Criteria • Must be a 4-H leader at local level. • Must be 21 years of age. • Must have certification from 4-H or a recognized organization.

17. Becoming a 4-H Shooting Sports Leader • Steps Involved. • Be a 4-H leader in your home county. • Receive training and certification in your desired discipline. • Submit an application to the State Coordinator.

18. Code of Ethics • Respect participants. • Set a good example. • Respect the dignity of each participant regardless of ability. • Conduct program in a professional and ethical manner. • Adhere to guidelines & be technically competent.
