The Great Southern California Shakeout How Schools Can Participate April 30, 2008
The Great Southern California ShakeOut • The largest earthquake drill in U.S. history, organized to inspire Southern Californians to get ready for big earthquakes, and to prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes. • Everyone is strongly encouraged to participate: schools, businesses, individuals, emergency responders, etc.
The Scenario • In the scenario, a catastrophic magnitude 7.8 earthquake will hit the San Andreas fault on Thursday, November 13, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. • The epicenter will be Bombay Beach in Imperial County • Rupture zone to Lake Hughes in Los Angeles County (approx. 200 miles)
