  1. Welcome to 5th Grade Ms. Fox Mr. Sauter Miss Schiller

  2. A Typical Day in 5th Grade • Beginning of the day – DOL, journal, and math • Rotations – Mr. Sauter, Social Studies; Ms. Fox, Math; Miss Schiller, Science • Lunch • Language Arts • Specials • Recess • Read Naturally, Second Step, silent reading, accelerated math and/or story

  3. CREW • The Lincoln Park staff have identified 3 behavior goals for the building. • Cooperation • Responsibility • Excellent Attitude • We are a CREW! • Students can earn tickets by meeting the behavior expectations.

  4. Homework Policy • Any incomplete work will be homework. • Homework is for your child, not you. • Your child should need minimal help with homework. • Homework is due the next day.

  5. Dealing With Problems • Students need to learn how to solve their own problems. • The Second Step program teaches students how to use empathy, solve problems and handle their anger/frustration appropriately. • We do not help students by solving their problems for them. • We help them by helping them find solutions to their problem that they can try.

  6. Classroom Discipline • Love and Logic • Move student away from the group • Phone calls • Strikes • Expanded Opportunities

  7. Strikes • Students receive a “strike” when they come unprepared for class. • They can get a strike for: * not having their book. * not having their assignment book. * not having their folder/pencil. • 3 strikes = 1 recess walking • Strikes start over at the end of every marking period.

  8. Expanded Opportunities • Students who do not complete homework will be required to attend an expanded opportunity session (EO). • Sessions are from 3:30-4:30, every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. • Student will bring home a note for parent to sign confirming the date and notifying us how the student is getting home (picked up or walking). • Student will call parent to set up which day they will be attending (must be within 1 week) if slip is not returned. • Student must attend even if the assignment is completed before the EO session.

  9. Daily Assignments • On daily assignments, students who receive below 90% can correct their mistakes and turn them back in to be re-graded. • The two scores are then averaged for the final grade.

  10. Checking Your Child’s Grades • Mona Shores now has Internet Parent Viewer for elementary students. • You should have received a letter last year with a user name and password. • If you need a new letter, they can be picked up in the office. • You need to go the the Mona Shores web page (www.monashores.net) and click on the Parent Internet Viewer link or you can access it from the 5th Grade blog site.

  11. Checking Your Child’s Grades • If you see a “0” for a grade, it means that I have graded the assignment and did not receive one from your child. • If there is an “X” for a grade, it means that your child has been excused from the assignment. • If the grade is blank, it means that I haven’t finished grading the assignment.

  12. Study Trips • Camp Pendalouan – April 2 – busses provided • Maple Ridge School – April 14, April 24 and April 30 • Bowling Party – Wednesday, June 3 • End of Year Trip – Camp Pendalouan Over Night – June 4-5 (Leave 8:45 on June 4 and return around 5:00 on June 5)
