  2. SECTION ONE Gearless AC PM Synchronous Machines

  3. Gearless AC PM Overview Feature Overview • AC Permanent Magnet Synchronous Design • Machine, Traction Sheave, Brake, and Encoder provided • Nearly Maintenance Free – No Brushes to maintain • Sub Base with Secondary Sheave - Options • Double Action - Brake Solenoid • Self-Cooling Motor • Accessible Lifting Lugs • Thermal Sensing Device 800 Series 500 Series 400 Series

  4. Gearless AC PM Overview Top 10 Important Features about AC PM Technology • 1. Instant start-up (pre-torque) • Because the rotor does not first have to be magnetized, as in an induction motor, the PM motor is ready to go in milliseconds, potentially improving elevator response time. 2. No standby power required • Unlike a DC motor with a wound field, which may require a constant 500 to 1000 watts of power, the PMAC machine does not consume any power while at rest. This further reduces both the direct power cost and reduces the heat rejected by the elevator into the buildings thermal envelope. • 3. High efficiency Operation • The PMAC machine is approximately 15% more efficient than an induction motor of equal power output. The means lower heat rejection, and more actual mechanical work per kW/h of electricity consumed. • 4. Total Enclosed Design • The PMAC motor is so efficient that it needs no internal ventilation. The enclosed design eliminate the need for cooling fans (eliminating both a failure mechanism and a maintenance task), and keeps all foreign material out of the motor.

  5. Gearless AC PM Overview Top 10 Important Features about AC PM Technology • 5. No brushes and or commutator • Eliminates major maintenance concerns, both with the direct replacement of brushed and the generation of carbon dust. In DC systems, excessive buildup of carbon dust can lead to catastrophic failure of both a hoist motor and MG set. • 6. Quiet Operation • The PMAC motor design allows for quieter operation as compared to an AC induction motor. This is due to the design and construction, and the fact that very low, sub-audible AC frequencies are used. No external fan is used. • 7. Responsive Operation • The combination of reduced moving mass and high torque capabilities make the PMAC motor more responsive to the control system. The result is superior elevator ride quality as well as easier adjustment and maintenance. • 8. Power Savings • The use of a regenative drive system further reduces operating costs by returning energy back to the AC line when the elevator is decelerating or carrying a load.

  6. Gearless AC PM Overview Top 10 Important Features • 9. Compact design (65% Smaller than Traditional Geared DC) • PMAC gearless hoists offer the lightest, most compact package, as compared to traditional DC motor designs. • 10. CSA Rated for use in North America US CANADA
