Agenda • What is the Carbon Portal Project? • Why we Initiated this • Project Aims & Goals • The Project Team • The Journey so far • Where are we now? • What next? • Can we get involved….?
What is the Carbon Portal Project • An Innovative & Collaborative SFHA Members Project • Key Elements include; • Thermographic Imaging of 10,000 properties across Scotland • 2,000 properties for insulation work • Re-Imaging of insulated units • Collection & Analysis of the Data / Results • Web based Portal aggregating and allowing members and stakeholders to see / analyse savings made (£’s & Carbon) • A data-set that demonstrates the sectors’ contribution and support for the Governments wider Policy agenda • A tool that has the potential to become a shared resource with others. • Sponsored by the Scottish Government
Why we initiated this • SFHA Business Plan – Jan 2009 • Member collaborative projects • Demonstrate sectors contribution to Green Policy • Engage and leverage benefits from member collaborative working • Pilot, learn, refine and roll-out model working • Greener Scotland….
Context – A Greener Scotland • The Scottish Government has set challenging short-term CO2 emission reduction targets, to support UK commitments under the Kyoto Protocol • Building Performance to increase by 25% • By 2010: • CO2 reductions for domestic property of 30%, 50% for non-domestic • Scotland Regulations to match Nordic regime • By 2013: 60% CO2 reduction for domestic property • Scotland aims to be “carbon neutral” by 2030 (Source: Sullivan Report)
The Project Team • SFHA – Project Sponsor • RSL’s • Cairn Housing – C.2,500 Properties & Insulation (TBD) • Clyde Valley – C.2,500 Properties & Insulation (TBD) • Dunedin Canmore – C.2,500 Properties & Insulation (TBD) • Riverclyde Homes – C.2,500 Properties & Insulation (TBD) • IRT – Thermography & Analysis • Citrus Mind – Project Management & Web
The Journey so far… • Concept – Jan 09 • Research, Planning & Partnering; Jan – Sep 09 • Securing Resources – Sep 09 – Jan 10 • Kick-Off – Feb 10 • Thermography – Feb 10 – Apr 10 • Analysis & Reporting – May 10 – June 10 • Ministerial Launch May 10
Other Data Use? • Still under discussion but indications are.. • Works prioritisation • Engagement of Tenants • Stronger basis for supplier negotiation • Data mapping / GIS • Learn and share
What Happens Next? • RSL analysis with insulator(s) re prioritising & Scheduling work for summer / Autumn. • Completion of Requirements gathering of Portal. • Build of Portal expected to begin July / August • Re-Imaging of c.2,000 insulated units – Early autumn • Portal launch Nov/Dec.
How do we get involved? • Phase 2 development – planning – particular emphasis on sustainability. • Phase 2 plans – collecting notes of interest now. • Please advise Mark Kennedy, • Project Owner; MKennedy@sfha.co.uk • Direct Dial 0141 567 6087 or • mobile 07717 227 696 • SFHA 4th Floor, Pegasus House 375 West George Street Glasgow G2 4LW
