Aim & Purpose The aim of this unit is to enable learners to apply rules and regulations and to officiate in a selected sport. Learning Outcomes: Know the rules, laws and regulations of a selected sport Know the roles and responsibilities of officials involved in a selected sport Understand the performance of officials in a selected sport Be able to officiate effectively in a selected sport

Definition of Sport • “Sport” means all forms of physical activity, which through casual or organised participation, aim at expressing or improving physical fitness and mental well-being, forming social relationships or obtaining results in competition at all levels.(Council of Europe’s European Sports Charter 1993) • Competitive games and sport which are characterised by the acceptance of rules and responses to opposing challenges.The European Sport for All Charter (Council of Europe, 1980)
