  2. CLOUDBREAK • CLOUDBREAK is: • An initiative sponsored by Assistant Secretary of Defense, Research & Engineering (ASD(R&E)) • Focused on delivering common tools and capabilities to meet COCOM gaps • A vehicle to demonstrate mature capabilities to Joint Warfighters in conjunction with COCOM Exercises • Leverages Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD), Program of Record (PoR), Pilots, and other relevant capabilities • A series of Campaigns to demonstrate capabilities and measure performance • CLOUDBREAK isn’t: • A Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) • Cloud Computing

  3. CLOUDBREAK Process • Migration from closed one-of-a-kind systems to a toolset of “composable” (build your own) capabilities available across the COCOMs • Agility to meet the needs of today's uncertain world • ASD (R&E) CLOUDBREAK– rapidly field new “plug and play” capabilities in an operational context Problem/Gap Definition Interviews Observe Operations Problem/Gap Definition Capabilities/ Solutions Capability Survey Gap Analysis Spiral Deliveries Solution Roadmap and Priorities Storefront delivery - Campaign Demonstrations Enterprise Architecture

  4. How CLOUDBREAK Works Knowledge Engineers Theme / Threat Scenario Execution Composed Capability Metrics and Analysis COCOM Capability Storefront Tools Common Architecture Improve Operations I Transition CLOUDBREAK Campaign

  6. CLOUDBREAK Architecture • Composable capability for unanticipated events • Defense Intelligence Information Enterprise (DI2E) DCGS – Distributed Common Ground System NCES – Net-Centric Enterprise Services ICDL – Intelligence Community Data Layer

  7. Example CLOUDBREAK Capability Strategic Watch • Situational Awareness on events of interest around the world • Browser based tool • Allows rapid reconfiguration: User Defined Operational Picture (UDOP) • 700+ data feeds/services • Views and layouts of data and widgets can be shared across COCOMs/ JS

  8. CLOUDBREAK Summary Who we Work with Key Ideas • COCOMs • - Campaign 1 PACOM • Capability Providers • - MIT Lincoln Lab • - JCTDs • - Services • - Agencies (NRO/DISA) • - ONR • Joint Staff J8 • CIO • USD (I) • Provide common “plug • and play” architecture • Provide agile, composable • tools across COCOMS CLOUDBREAK Campaign Theme / Threat Knowledge Engineers Transition Path Gap Analysis Interviews Observe Operations Problem Definition Composed Capability • Each capability demonstrated • has its own transition path Capabilities/ Solutions CYBER Capability Storefront Tools Metrics & Analysis Potential Solution(s) Gap Analysis What w are doing Difference it makes Common Architecture Spiral Deliveries Solution Roadmap and Priorities Spiral Deliveries • Gaps filled faster • Providing agility to • COCOMS via Composable • Apps and Knowledge Engineers COCOM Exercises I Transition
