  1. NEiM : GIS solution Case Study Telecommunications > Geomarketing

  2. Agenda 1. NEiM overview 2. Telecom Geomarketing case study

  3. 1. NEiM overview

  4. 1. NEiMoverview (1/5) Description > Geographical Information System (GIS) (intranet mode) > Maps (point of sales, network…) shared between users > Geo-data analysis (coverage vs population…) > Integrated dataset (geographical layers, population density per square km…)

  5. 1. NEiMoverview (2/5) Basic features > Create/Edit map from one or multiple layer(s) > Export data/map (CSV, KML, TAB, SHP, GIF…) > Attach pictures/documents (JPG, GIF, PDF, DOC, XLS…) > Search, Select, Zoom in/out, Measure distance, Print…

  6. 1. NEiMoverview (3/5) Advanced features > Users/Maps management : users profile, map sharing… > Files/Database management : files upload (TAB, SHP…)... > Create/Save/Export SQL query > Analysis : Layers comparison, Coverage eligibility, Coverage radius…

  7. 1. NEiMoverview (4/5) Integrated dataset > Icons library > Google Maps, Open Street Maps… > Worldwide geographical layers (administrative boundaries, primary/secondary roads, railways, rivers…) > (optional) Population density, Wind/Solar intensity…

  8. 1. NEiMoverview (5/5)

  9. 2. Telecom Geomarketing case study

  10. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (1/7) Objectives > Estimate the number and location of Base Stations required > Calculate the % of population covered within a given area of study and where population density is above a certain level.

  11. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (2/7) Area of study > Location: Sibut (Central African Republic) > Total population: 27,712 > Total surface: 1739 square km Assumption: population per square km > 20 > Urban: pop per sq km > 300, coverage radius: 0,5 km > Suburban: pop per sq km: 50-300, coverage radius: 2 km > Rural: pop per sq km: 20-50, coverage radius: 12 km

  12. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (3/7) Requirements > NEiM solution > Population density (LandScan) vector layer of Sibut area PS: LandScan integrates daytime movements and collective travel habits into a single measure to produce a better representation of where people are located during an average day.

  13. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (4/7) Step 1: Locate the most populated areas > by SQL query: population per square km > 20 (highlighted by the green squares in figure below) Total targeted population: 19,566 Total targeted surface: 23 square km PS: the above numbers have been calculated by exporting the SQL query in CSV (Excel compatible)

  14. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (5/7) Step 2: Locate the theoritical Base Stations > by creating Base Stations in center of the targeted areas (where population per square km > 20) (highlighted by the blue circles in figures below) Number of Base Stations required: 17 PS: Base Stations locations can be extracted from the CSV export (Excel compatible)

  15. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (6/7) Step 3: Calculate the % of population covered > by comparing 2 layers: « Population density » vs « Base Stations » % of population covered: 63%

  16. 2. Telecom Geomarketingcase study (7/7) Results > Number of Base Stations required: 17 (Location of Base Stations can be extracted from the CSV file) > % of population covered: 63% Time to generate the above results > Less than 2 hours (including manual tasks)
