EGO – GROOM Some milestones for the future

EGO-GROOM has accomplished significant milestones, such as participation in international conferences and securing funding for crucial projects. With plans for a coordinated Atlantic Observing System and Mediterranean Observing System, EGO-GROOM aims to enhance global ocean observations. Legal issues and funding proposals are key considerations for future endeavors.

  1. EGO – GROOM Some milestones for the future

  2. EGO – GROOM Recent achievements • EGO-GROOM Participation to the 5th Session of the JCOMM Observations Coordination Group (OCG) in September 2013  EGO-GROOM recognized as a community of practice. Recommendation for a implementation plan • “A glider coordinator” (should be soon) funded for 2-4 years for the Atlantic (H2020 AtlantOS proposal)  could be a way to test and further establish this function in the frame of JCOMMOPS (JCOMM in situ Observing Platform Support Centre) for EGO within the GOOS • GROOM participate to the 2nd International Conference on Research Infrastructures in April 2014  GROOM included in the discussion for the update of the 3rd ESFRI roadmap to be delivered in April 2015

  3. EGO – GROOM European (USA-Canada) Milestones • H2020 BG8 proposal for a coordinated Atlantic Observing System (Europe-USA-Canada) to be soon submitted to the EC (to big to fail!) • H2020 INFRADEV4 proposal to be submitted in Sept. 2014. Common platform for ESFRI Environmental • Marine ESFRI: EuroARGO, EMSO, EMBRC + GROOM • A opportunity to get funded to continue GROOM work 'legal' issues • Will require a MoU for CNRS to represent the GROOM community • H2020 INFRAIA1 proposal to be submitted in Sept. 2014. JERICO-2 • to harmonise observation techniques in several European coastal and shelf seas, integrating key observing platforms (including biology) • Continuation of the glider activity in the ROOSes with a 'monitoring' perspective

  4. EGO – GROOM Mediterranean Milestones • H2020 program for the 2016-2017 period could include a call for a coordinated Mediterranean Observing System (including South Med. and Middle East Countries)

  5. EGO – GROOM Concluding remarks • Towards European Ocean Observation. Report of MRI expert group in Jan. 2013 • Towards an integrated. European Ocean Observing System (EOOS). Strating Agenda (PI K. Nittis, EuroGOOS secr.)  Seminal OO'09 Glider community white paper (Testor et al.) • Since, EGO – GROOM havee been mainly 'call for proposal driven' • At the European level It will continue for the next year • Need for an updated Community White Paper ?
