Learning outcomes • UK Position • The learning outcome methodology both at programme specification level and the module level is well developed. • An holistic approach to learning outcomes is less common with learning outcomes often written in isolation from the learning and assessment methodology. • The use of appropriate language is varied. • Learning outcomes are linked to Subject benchmark statements (akin to tuning in results) held by the QAA. ( for example for Dance, Drama, Performance; “able to describe and interpret performance texts, production techniques and disciplines and performance events”) • Strategy for Improvement • Improved use of learning outcomes through staff development such as the Postgraduate certificate in higher education practice (PG-CHEP). • Developing the use of the Higher Education Academy (http://www.heacademy.ac.uk/home ) and its subject centres. • Collaboration in EU and International projects on learning outcomes. • Growth in the active use of Learning Outcomes is needed. • More linking of learning outcomes to Assessment/Learning/Teaching (ALT)
