Remember that journals and reflection sheets are due today! • On a scale of 1 to 10, how much do you feel that you are benefitting from this course? Explain. • What have you found to be the most worthwhile, meaningful or enjoyable in this class so far? • Are you getting enough help from me during work time in your online classes? Please explain your answer. • Have you found the mastery quizzes to be very difficult, somewhat difficult or not at all difficult for you to do? • Other than video access, do you have any frustrations with the online classes? Please explain. • Would you like to keep the catalyst at the beginning of class, or move it to the middle of class, or the end of class? • If you could change one thing about this course, what would it be? Why? • Did your progress report reflect the grade that you would like to have in this class? Explain your answer. • Please write down any questions you have about your progress report in your journal. • Did you meet the goal that you set last Friday to make a ‘wise choice’? What were the effects of this choice? • Fourth Block: What is code switching and why is it important in this class or any class?

Do you believe that you will still be in touch with this person in 20 years? Why or why not? • 9. Would you feel proud or happy if you were to become just like this person? Why or why not? • 10.   5. Catalyst #28 October 1, 2014 • College Application & Research Day • 1. Does any college that you are interested in applying to require an essay? (Respond in a COMPLETE sentence.) • 2. How are you going to use your work time today: 1- college application, 2- college essay, or 3- college research (if you are a junior or did not already complete your research) 4- continuing in your online classes • 3. Have you talked with parents and/or counselors about financial aid/paying for your tuition at a college? (Respond in a COMPLETE sentence.) • College essays should be written in Google Drive, so that I can provide comments and edits. • P.S. Next Friday, October 10th, our A-B Tech recruiter will be coming to speak to our class! Bring your questions!

Some flowers are to be removed from one vase and placed in another vase to make the ratio of flowers in the three vases 3 : 2 : 1. What is the least number of flowers that must be moved to accomplish this? A. 18 B. 12 C. 10 D. 8 E. 6 • 3.Pat and Lee are removing cartons from a truck. Pat removes 1/8 of the number of cartons from the truck, and Lee removes 1/4 of the number of cartons. After that, there are 40 cartons left in the truck. I will complete at least 80% of my homework on time this week. I will complete my math homework during SMART period, and I will complete my English and Spanish homework after practice each day, by 9pm. List at least two ways in which goal A is different from goal B. • 2. Read the following two goal statements about MFL classes: A. I will complete all of my Arithmetic MFL class by the end of class today, October 3rd. B. I will complete 10 activities and 2 mastery quizzes in my Algebra MFL class by next Friday, October 10th. I will earn at least an 70% on each activity, and at least an 80% on each mastery quiz. List at least two ways in which goal A is different from goal B. • 3. Read the following two goal statements about college applications: A. I will graduate high school in June and go to college in Fall 2015. B. By Sunday, Oct. 5th, I will spend 2 hours setting up my application to UNCA and completing all of my personal information. I will spend one hour this week working on a draft of the essay for my application, and I will write the first 100 words of this essay.List at least two ways in which goal A is different from goal B.

What was your accomplishment and when did you accomplish it? • 2. What did you do to make this accomplishment possible? What work was required? • 3. How long did you have to work toward this accomplishment? • 4. How did you feel at the time of this accomplishment? What did it mean to you, other than just feeling happy/proud? • 5. What were the effects of your accomplishment? How did it affect you or other people? • 6. What does this accomplishment represent about you? What does it say about what is important to you or what you are capable of? • 7. Has this accomplishment inspired you to achieve something else or to set a new goal? How so? If not, what could be your next goal or next step?
