Graphing Basics(Bell-ringer) Mr. Haase
Amount Of CO₂ Year What does this graph tell you about Carbon Dioxide levels in the Atmosphere? Why do you think the Carbon Dioxide levels rise and fall every year?
Amounts of atmospheric gas 3. According to this chart, what is the most abundant gas in the atmosphere? 4. About what percentage of the atmosphere is made up of Oxygen?
Bell-ringer answers 1. Levels of carbon dioxide have been rising steadily since 1958. 2. Carbon dioxide levels are higher in the winter because many plants are dormant. During the summer plants are soaking up more carbon dioxide (CO₂) 3. Nitrogen 4. About 21%
Group Activity • Get in groups of three or four • Designate a job for each group member • Time-keeper • Data recorder • Graph designer • Heartbeat of the group • If your group only has 3 members you will have to share some responsibilities
Time-keeper • You will be keeping track of time using a stopwatch. • During the activity you will be timing each activity level and 15 seconds while the other member measure their pulse
Data recorder • You will be writing down the number of heartbeats during a 15 second period. • Multiply this number by 4 to get the beats per minute (bpm) • Record beats per minute (bpm) in the table
As a group think of an activity that will get your heart rate going faster(jumping jacks, running in place, etc.) • 1st measurement (Level 0): calm breathing, no movement…measure heart rate for 15 sec. • 2nd measurement (Level 1): 10 seconds of activity…measure heart rate for 15 sec. • 3rd measurement (Level 2): 20 seconds of activity…measure heart rate for 15 sec. • 4th measurement (Level 3): 30 seconds of activity…measure heart rate for 15 sec.
