Job Description: Controls Systems – Design Engineer Department: Technical Location: Dumbarton Status: Permanent Reports to: Technical Manager • Working closely in the team you will preferably have experience in the following areas:- • Deliver multiple projects on target and cost effectively, with contract commercial awareness. • Design of electrical control systems and panels. • Electrical & Instrumentation circuit drawing using CAD package. • PLC programming, HMI graphics design and programming. • IT communications & networks (Data Highway, Ethernet etc). • Control System testing in-house. • On-site commissioning – primarily overseas. • Produce timely and accurate technical information to other sections of the dept / company. • Travel overseas for contract commissioning / customer meetings. • Design electrical control systems from inception to include control systems and panels. • Design system flow and logic diagrams specific to project needs. • Design / Program PLC and HMI operator controls and graphics systems. • Develop techniques to automate activities and reduce errors. • Develop working relationship with clients in order to achieve company targets and meet personal objectives. • Stay abreast of latest techniques and New product developments. • Liaise with relevant teams / departments within DPSL in resolving technical and commercial issues. Purpose of Post: To deliver projects on target, on time and within budget. Process and produce technical information to other sections of the dept, whilst maintaining and processing throughput of workload in a timely and efficient manner using approved company software. Check, document, record and file drawings and information. • Key Responsibilities: Safeguard DPSL’s interests (Technical and Commercial). • Review and process all customer specifications, drawings and customer needs, including control system specifications. • Prepare project for approval by Controls / Project Manager. • Design and program control systems, including PLC and associated control panels. • Ensure compliance with DPSL and customer audit requirements. • Develop and maintain relationships with clients to achieve current and future objectives. • Post Holder Characteristics: • Strong bias for action to identify potential problems and co-ordinate their resolution before they develop into significant issues. • Continually seeks to identify new ideas and implement new opportunities, which deliver business benefit. • The ability to build and develop effective relationships and use these to improve performance. • Strong communication , presentation and team working skills. • Knowledge of the principles of company policy and operating procedures in order to execute / complete projects. Qualifications, essential & regulatory: Sufficient and appropriate experience in Electrical Project Engineering and PLC programming. Professional Electrical qualification, with a minimum of HNC (degree qualification preferred ) in Electrical / Engineering discipline. Familiar with all MS Office packages and common office IT support packages, experience in using CAD / ELCAD an advantage.
