Crimes Against Property • Two groups- • Crime in which property is destroyed • Arson or vandalism • Crime in which property is stolen • Robbery or embezzlement
Types of Crime Against Property • Arson: willful and malicious burning of a person’s property. • Vandalism(malicious mischief): willful destruction of, or damage to, the property of another. • Larceny: the unlawful taking and carrying away of the property of another • Not bringing it back.
Larceny • Types of larceny • Grand larceny: over $100 • Petty larceny: under $100 • Shoplifting: taking items from a store without paying • Concealment: attempted shoplifting

Types of Crimes, ctd. • Embezzlement: taking of property by someone to whom it was entrusted • Examples? • Robbery: taking by force from a person’s immediate possession. • Extortion: (blackmail) use of threats to obtain the property of another. • Burglary: unauthorized entry into any structure with the intent to commit a crime • Forgery: falsely making or altering a writing or document. • Receiving Stolen Property: buying or receiving property that you know or have reason to believe is stolen.
