March 23, 2015 [Day A] Objective(s): SWBAT: identify values for the variables in equations and inequalities that result in true or false number sentences. (6.EE.B.5)
Work on the first two columns on example 1 page 110 independently or with a partner. Pg. 110 Example 1
Let’s look at 4g=32 and g=8. What do you notice happens when 8 is substituted for g in both equations? 8 makes both of the equations result in true number sentences. What do you notice about the substitutions with 4, 2, 0 and 10? Pg. 110 Example 1 Each of those substituted values makes the equations result in false number sentences. Why do you think that happened? Because they are both equations, we expect that only one number can be substituted for g to result in a true number sentence. In this case, 8 is the only number that can be substituted to make both true. How are 4g=32 and g=8 related? You can get from 4g=32 to g=8 by dividing both sides of 4g=32 by 4, or you can get from g=8 to 4g=32 by multiplying both sides of g=8 by 4.
