How will you do it? • Utilise the staff you have • Employ canvassing staff • Telesales – in house or external company • Subcontract to company • Use self employed staff • Utilise Hospice Databases
Utilise the staff you have In house canvassing/campaigns • Face-to-face (door-to-door/outlets) • New member campaign • 2nd number campaign • Lapsed members • Use Volunteers to sell single tickets • Use telesales to follow up single ticket sales • Leaflet drops
Employ Canvassing Staff Advantages • More control • Personal touch • Vested interest in gaining results for Hospice Disadvantages • Committed to long term employment • Results not guaranteed • Bad results can be demoralising
Telesales by Independent Company Advantages • Guaranteed results • Can control numbers required and only pay for those • Instant members Disadvantages • Can be costly – can be some time before your lottery makes the profit • TPS can restrict the numbers of contacts available • Little or no control
Canvassing Company • Similar advantages/disadvantages to Telesales • Will guarantee instant results
Use self-employed Canvassers • Less of a commitment • Can easily terminate contract • No holiday pay commitment • BEWARE! Master/servant relationship • Difficult to control
How would you use your canvassing staff • Door-to-door sales (after previous leaflet drop) • Store/outlet promotions • Sheltered Housing schemes • Individual shops/businesses – invite them to join • Corporates – ask them to support salary deduction • Single ticket sales at events • Single ticket sales in Hospice shops
Utilise Hospice databases • Costs nothing! • Re-awaken interest to past supporters • Acknowledgements to donations to include a lottery application form • When a member joins, enclose a form to “pass on to a friend” • Cheque reminder letters, enclose a form to “pass on to a friend” • Include a form with winning cheques to “pass on to a friend” • Staff members to pay through salary?
How will you take payments? • Standing Orders }Most cost • Direct Debits }effective • Credit/debit card payments – Remote Licence required • Cheques • Cash – Collectors or Collection points then required • Salary Deduction – companies • Partnerships
THANK YOU! • Any comments/questions/ideas
