  7. Getting the record straight…

  8. Diploma Verification Report (DVR) Purpose of DVR’s: • verify the information sent to Ministry • double check all graduation requirements met • student’s responsibility to make sure the information on his/her Unofficial Transcript is accurate and to ensure missing requirements are being addressed as stated on the Unofficial Transcript • students will review their Unofficial Transcript as part of their initial Grad Trans assignment

  9. Transcripts • Unofficial transcripts available in Student Services • --Record of successfullycompleted Gr. 10, 11 & 12 courses • Official transcripts will be mailed home in August.

  10. Provincial Exams • The only provincial exam required for this year will be English or Communications 12. • Same format as previous years

Take advantage of… • Advising Sessions—make an appointment with an admissions advisor at the institution • The Canadian Universities Event Monday, October 2 • 1:00 – 3:00 Sutherland • 6:30 – 8:30 Rockridge • Post Secondary Event at Carson on Thurs, October 12th from 8:30-11:00am • Institution open houses/orientation sessions. Check individual institution websites for events.

  24. Admissions – how to apply • Apply on line at www.applybc.ca • Need PEN, Faculty(1st,2nd choice) • Pay Fee (Credit card) • Diploma Verification – Self Reporting • Check status

  25. What About My Grades? • Admission Averages • GPA based on Gr 12 courses – it varies • Self-reporting grades • 1st Term Grades • Electronic transmission of grades • 2nd Term Grades • PSI Form (Freedom of Information) After November. Will be a Grad Trans assignment. • Final Grades – August

  26. Post Secondary – In BC • “Early” admissions ??? • Self report grades – 2nd term (Mar/April) Universities confirm grades (early May) • Offers - May/June (earlier depends on GPA) • Acceptance – May/June • course registration -June (or later, depending on GPA)

Once you apply on line • keep track of all applications – GT Binder / file folder • Will receive student # & info on how to access your student site • Look for contact info in confirmation email/letter • Check if additional/supplemental applications are needed • Continue to monitor account for any additional paperwork/deadlines etc.

  32. Entrance Scholarships • Academic achievement only • Guideline -some early Dec (UBC Dec 1st, SFU Jan 31st) – check websites! • Local Institutions Financial Aid and Awards: - SFU, UBC, UVIC, Cap U, BCIT, UNBC • Out of province – Check websites

  33. Ministry of Education Awards B.C. Achievement Scholarships • BC Achievement Scholarships are valued at $1250 and recognize the top 8000 graduates in the province. The Ministry will determine recipients based on achievement in Grades 10, 11, and 12 courses that satisfy 2004 Graduation Program requirements, including elective courses. No Application is necessary District Scholarships • There are 5500 District/Authority Scholarships, valued at $1250, distributed across school districts and independent school authorities that recognize graduating B.C. students for excellence in their chosen area of interest or strength. • Application through the School Scholarship Committee in January

Due late January – Carson Scholarship application will be available online in January • General criteria includes: - academic standing - volunteer service - extracurricular involvement • Specific Criteria – depends on Scholarship or Bursary
