1. 23rd AFACT Meeting & EDICOM ■ Overview - Dates: Oct. 24 – 27, 2005 - Venue: Sheraton Hanoi Hotel, Ha Noi, Vietnam - Hosted by: E-Commerce Dept., Ministry of Trade, Vietnam - Participants: 60 from 12 member countries and economies and two associate members (ebXML Asia Committee & PAA) - StC Meeting, Joint Working Group Meetings, Plenary & EDICOM Conference Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia
■ Decisions of the Plenary Meeting - One minute silence to offer condolence and sympathy to the earthquake victims in Pakistan and India - Wider distribution of its annual AFACT Yearbook for promotion - Resolved to organize the eAsia Award event bi-annually - At the Working group level, BCFWG resolved to change its name and Financial group to initiate a new project on cross-border payment - Pakistan to host 24th AFACT Meeting this year → Interim StC Meeting: Apr. 10-11, Lahore, Pakistan → AFACT Meeting: Aug. 7-10, Karachi, Pakistan Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia

2. 2006 Interim AFACT StC Meeting ■ Apr. 10-11, 2006, Lahore, Pakistan ■ Major Discussions and Decisions - Next eAsia Award: to be organized by Thailand in 2007 - 25th AFACT Event → Interim StC Meeting: Apr. 18-19, 2007, Phuket, Thailand → Annual AFACT Meeting: Jul. 31-Aug. 3, Bangkok, Thailand - Pakistan: Intention to host future UN/CEFACT Forum - Collaboration with other regional bodies: APEC, ASEAN, SEACC, etc. - AFACT Roadmap for future AFACT direction - UNeDocs Assessment taskforce was formed Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia

ASEAN (Association of South East Asian Nations) ■ Trade facilitation: Good tracking on the development of ASEAN Single Windows ■ e-Business: e-ASEAN Working Group (EAWG) - dissolved in 2005 and integrated into the activities of the telecommunications working group ■ Further tracking on the e-Business activities of ASEAN is necessary Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia
2. APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) ■ ECSG (Electronic Commerce Steering Group) - Paperless Trading SubGroup - Data Privacy SubGroup ■ Participated in the 12th ECSG and Sub-group meetings with official invitation - Sep. 2005,Kyung-Ju, Korea - Introduced UN/CEFACT and proposed collaboration on paperless trading → capacity building, promotion & paperless trading standards dev. - went into internal process to grant a guest status to UN/CEFACT ■ Participated in the 13th ECSG and Sub-group meetings - Feb. 2006, Ha Noi, Vietnam - ECSG granted a guest status to UN/CEFACT - 2nd PPP(Public Private Partnership) Dialogue on Paperless Trading was held Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia

1. ebXML (e-Business) Asia Committee (eAC) ■ Regional body to promote the implementation of ebXML(e-Business) in the region ■ 13th and 14th eAC Meeting - 13th : Jun. 20 - 24, 2005, Hong Kong SAR, China - 14th : Nov. 22 – 25, 2005, Taipei, Chinese Taipei - Plenary, two task groups (CCTG & ITG) and one project (RRF) ■ RRF (Registry and Repository Federation) Project - Joint project with ISO/IEC JTC1 SC32 WG2(Metadata) - Held several interim meetings in 2005 - Completed a pilot test and guideline at the 14th Meeting ■ ITG (Interoperability Task Group) - Planning on future activities on testing ebMS 3.0 and Web Services Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia

PAA (Pan Asian eCommerce Alliance) ■ Industry-led alliance of service providers to enable secure and reliable cross-border trade and logistics related documents ■ Membership: 9 member organizations from regional economies - CIECC of China - TradeVan of Chinese Taipei - TradeLink of Hong Kong SAR, China - TEDI of Japan - KTNET of Korea - TedMev of Macau SAR, China - DagangNet of Malaysia - CrimsonLogic of Singapore - CAT Telecom of Thailand ■ Continues its effort to develop data exchange formats with focus on ECO Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia
Observations & Suggestions ■ Much efforts on trade facilitation and e-Business are on-going in the region ■ Effort to Coordinate among regional bodies and with UN/CEFACT is necessary ■ UN/CEFACT should be at the centre of this coordination effort and the commitment for this effort should come from within UN/CEFACT first. - AFACT: Much closer collaboration and support from UN/CEFACT is needed → formal liaison at the working group level → joint promotion activities - APEC: Next ECSG on Sep. 2006 for official UN/CEFACT presence - ASEM: Next meeting on Nov. 2006 in China - PAA, eAC, ASEAN, etc. ■ Continue seeking collaboration with regional bodies whenever circumstances allow Report of UN/CEFACT Rapporteur for Asia
