Bachelor of Informatics at Humboldt University will start in 2009 Klaus Bothe 8th Workshop “Software Engineering Education and Reverse Engineering” Durres, Albania, 8th – 13rd September 2008
Current state in Germany • Based on a contract with the state, the Bologna-compliant curricula have to be introduced by WS 2009/2010 • Germany: about 70% of all Informatics curricula are now according to Bologna rather than to old diploma • There are frameworks for Informatics curricula in Germany
Goals of bachelor compared with „good old“ German diploma • Decrease of the high break-up rates in diploma curriculum (50 % at HU) • Ease of students exchange by credit-points and change after bachelor to other universities • Bachelor is more profession-oriented rather than theory-based • Introduce the fundamentals for the research-oriented master curriculum HU (and Germany …): BA + MA: 6 + 4 semesters
Highlights of BA at HU • Theoretical foundations remain well represented: Theoretical informatics and mathematics • New: Semester project (team work, larger project in 5th semester) • A lot of electives in Bacherlor: Artificial intelligence, computer vision …
Semester project • Teams of 5 - 15 students • About 10 projects have to be offered each year • All groups (profs) have to be involved • Goal: gain project experience • Whole software cycle: requirements, design, coding, test • Team work • Use of software tools • Industry partners are welcome • Results have to be presented
Master • 4 semesters, 120 credits • With 30 credits for master thesis • Start in summer and winter semester (not to loose time for students with longer bachelor) • Only general master in informatics (no special ones, e.g. in software engineering) • Several specialization directions recommended
