  1. The Helmet of Salvation S 12-6-2015 S, 7/05 T,A 8/06

  2. Now we all have our shields!

  3. You are stranded on a small island. You spot the boat and light the signal fire. When do you start jumping up and down shouting, “I’m saved, I’m saved”?

  4. God’s Helm • ISA 59:17 The Lord put on righteousness as His breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on His head; he put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.

  5. Why the fifth armor piece? 1. The truth is the foundation to approach God. 2. Breastplate approach God with Jesus’ Righteousness. 3. Once you have the Gospel you Go! Prepare to share. 4. The shield is the power to repel the negative attacks. 5. The helmet is the assurance of salvation. Your head is where knowledge happens. You can KNOW that you are wearing your helmet! • Remember: It is God’s point of view. God wears this Helmet so there must be more to it than just salvation from sin. The helm is a massive source of Joy!

  6. Wear Your Helmet!! How many times did you hear this as a kid?

  7. On the battlefield • Helmets save lives. • Your helmet is your source of vision. • Your head will get knocked around. Blows disorient. • Attacks from above – horsemen. • Salvation is the one thing Satan does not want you to have! He revels in messing up the helm.

  8. The Helmet Ephesians 6:17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Least amount of context here so we have to look for clues elsewhere..

  9. The Corinthian Helm Example Real Helmet

  10. The helmet belongs to God! • Revelation 7:10 And they cried out in a loud voice Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb. • Like all the armor parts, the helm comes from God.

  11. Jesus brought this Helmet • 1 Thessalonians 5:8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. • Luke 1:77 (Jesus came) To give knowledge of salvation to His people By the remission of their sins.. • “It is finished”

  12. Apology. • Helmet goes on your HEAD, the seat of knowledge and authority. • Baptism messes up your hair, so does wearing a helmet!

  13. How to know I am wearing it? • Our messed up salvation by works causes us to misunderstand this bit of armor. The Helm instructions are told to established Christians! (Eph 1:4 we have redemption + forgiveness of sins.) • By grace saved. Eph 2:8 • Rom 11:6 if by works then grace is no longer grace.

  14. Knowledge Salvation relationship • 2 Timothy 3:14-17 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed..

  15. There is no partial saved! • Jeremiah 17:14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; Save me, and I shall be saved, For You are my praise. • Hebrews 7:25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

  16. What does this Helmet look like? • John 5:24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” EXAMPLE Helmet modern

  17. What the Helmet looks like • John 10:28 "And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

  18. What the Helmet looks like • 1 John 5:13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

  19. What the Helmet looks like • Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

  20. Proper use of Salvation • 1 Timothy 1:8 We know that the law is good if one uses it properly. • 1 Corinthians 3:15 If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. Example Pain without knowledge Example Joy comes with knowledge Example Instructions

  21. The joy of salvation • Habakkuk 3:18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. Example pay the court without knowledge Example the cure without knowledge

  22. Joy from the well • Isaiah 12:1-3 Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song, and he has become my salvation." With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.

  23. The empty head • Jeremiah 17:5 Thus says the LORD: "Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.

  24. If you choose empty head Example Joey

  25. You are dead without your helmet • Hebrews 2:3-4 How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation? This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles..

  26. What the empty head looks like Example poor helmet fliers

  27. Distorting Salvation Scary! • Jude 1:4 They are godless men, who change the grace of our God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord. • Heb 10:29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

  28. Applies to me? • 1 Timothy 2:4 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. • Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men.

  29. You have a helmet appointment 1 Thessalonians 5:8 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. (you can be sure God keeps his appointments. 2 Pet 3:9)

  30. The three appointments Your salvation is appointment #1. Hebrews 9:27 It is appointed for men to die once, (#2) but after this the judgment. (#3) EVERYONE will meet these three appointments in God’s plans. Don’t dismiss this first one!

  31. The big Question: • Is Baptism required for salvation? • Is obedience required for salvation? • 2 Thessalonians 1:8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. A: Nothing you do can merit salvation but you have to do somethings to be saved.

  32. Work out your Salvation (Phil 2:12) • Romans 2:13 For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God's sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. NIV • There are 19 things that scripture says will save you. 19 instructions that are “required” for the Helmet to work.

  33. If you have not put on the Helm • Acts 2:37-39 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off-- for all whom the Lord our God will call. (there’s that first appointment) • Acts 22:16 And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

  34. If you have it never take it off! • Matthew 24:13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. • 1 Timothy 4:16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

  35. Also things go along with it • Hebrews 6:9 Even though we speak like this, dear friends, we are confident of better things in your case—things that accompany salvation. • It Grows • 1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation

  36. So how many steps? How many steps are there in salvation? Salvation is not a destination, it is a journey. If we walk in the light as He is in the light.. Run the race to the end! Jesus said this three times: But the one who endures to the end will be saved. (Matt 10, Mat 24, Mar 13)

  37. Wear your Helmet! • There is no partially saved. • Assurance grows from knowledge. • There is great Joy in Salvation. • Helmet is a source of hope. • Learn the Instructions. They must be obeyed.

  38. Shield before helm? • Romans 10:10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. • Rom 4:10-11 Righteous Credit is given BEFORE the works.

  39. What about Grace? • 1cor 15:10, Eph 2:9-10, 2 Thes 2:17, titus 3:8 grace leads to works. • Eph 3:7 Grace is God’s work
